A bit about our QCKDUCE
'63 SS Nova /Chevy II Originally from the boys at GM it was a 6 cyl/4 spd.
I bought the car ONLY after bugg'n and pester'n my buddy for over two years until
he finally gave in. It had been sitting in a mini storage, gathering dust and he had no intentions of ever racing again. We pulled the race motor and sold it to help recoup some of the $$ we paid for the
car.
For street and show use we installed a 468, Edlebrock Street Tunnel w/twin 4150 HOLLEYS mounted
sideways with trick linkage from the boys at Summit, Unilite dist. (had to swap out the HEI – no clearance after
installing the TunnelRam), MSD 7AL, CompCams 292H Magnum™ @ 36 degrees total advance, massaged DART II Oval Port heads
and 1.7:1 roller rockers, TRW 9.5 : 1, stock rods and crank, 1-3/4” custom
fab’d and tuned headers to 3” chassis exit collectors and Flowmasters with 2 -1/2” tails that down turned
just forward of the narrowed 12 bolt runn’n 410’s (ran 5:38’s on the track turning 7300 thru the traps),
Strange Spool and 35 spline axles, Inland Empire aluminum DriveLine – billet yokes w/SpicerŪ universals, Wildwoods front
& rear, home fabbed 2x3 mandrel bent frame sitting on a Morrison suspension
- MustangII Rack & Pinion, GM A-arms, 4-link, KONI adjustable coil overs
and Competition wheelie bars. Full aluminum inside, 10 point cage, RCI seats, 5 point cam-lok harness and 12 gal cell,
Holley 250 gpm electric pump and Aeroquip braided lines and fittings.
I have only a few still photos,,, but have got miles of VHS.
During the cars short 3 year show career, in the “60’s Modified or Custom” class - tha "Duce" took
4 First Place, 2 Seconds – 2 Best Engine and our favorite,, 1 Peoples Choice. We had our old ’73 HALL motor home
and trailer painted in color coordinated shades of greens and off whites and my wife and I had MORE than our share of fun
dragg’n QuickDeuce all over the PNW do’n tha show thang. It had been
a lifelong dream for myself, and my wife supported my spending frenzy since I’d put those dreams in tha closet while
we raised our 5 young’ns.
I did notice a funny thing about do’n tha shows,,,
almost 2/3’s of the other folks out there were about the same age as us,,, wonder
if they did the same ?? :o]
Well, that’s about all I can think of for now. I
hope you can forgive this ‘ol fella’s rambling on,, and on,,, and on about QuickDeuce.. but if it helps, just
remember that one day ---- ALL you’ll have is a box of photos and memories and a hope someone’s willing to listen
as you bore tha heck out of ‘em with YOUR stories. :o] Ain’t life GRAND !!
